Welcome to my fashion journal that I hope can inspire you to a FABULOUS yet MINDFUL wardrobe.
THE STATUS OF SHADES
With summer around the corner and for those living in London, it seems at last the sun has found its way down to us, a blazing long overdue. This exciting moment of sunbeam proposes an urgent need for shades, disclosing an intricate social positioning.
SILVER TROUSERS MANIA
There it was, the statement I had been looking for, simply, truthfully and audaciously shouted by my friend, (who wishes to remain anonymous) the f*** silver trousers mania. Call it futuristic influence, and yes I'm blaming you silicon valley, by bringing sci fi back in fashion, but here it is and maybe it is here to stay?
THE CHALLENGE TO LOOK CHIC, YET SPORTY ON THE SLOPES.
As a kid, my parents adored outdoor life, which I enjoyed (and think is a great childhood) except for one crucial part: the practical outfits. Shoes that are made for walking and mud, coats that are made for wind and rain, trousers that are made for walking but not at all enhance any of your figure and it baffles me until this day; Why have so few brands found a balance between beauty and practicality?
THE ETERNAL WHITE SUIT
It takes vigor and a great dry cleaner to embrace a white suit, however the never-ending stylish statement is somehow worth the risk.
ROSES ARE RED, VIOLETS ARE BLUE, OH VALENTINES THERE, WHAT SHALL I WEAR?
I have never felt such a heated topic when asking about people's Valentine Plans, some throw the ‘commercialism is taking’ over in your face, others stare far away in a quiet, depressing mood whilst others laugh at you whilst planning a huge party to fight this day made for love.
THE DAZZLING HUNT FOR A CHRISTMAS DRESS
With festivities around the corner, my hunt for a dazzling Christmas dress kicks off. Come December, who can resist a rich textured velvety red or the joy of the sparkle of glitter?
THE PUFFER COAT DILEMMA
It’s that time of year again, when your faithful autumn coat sadly no longer is sufficient to keep you warm in the apricity. It's time to change style for comfort; also known as the puffer coat. Even though British Vogue states that the puffer radiates a “I’d-rather-be-in-bed” attitude, that apparently is cool for some, for me sadly this highly practical coat is just one thing; ugly.
SUITING A SUIT
When British Vogue announced that The Princess Of Wales Had Retired Her Midi-Dresses In Favour Of A New Look, constructed of very chic suits, it launched me on a hunt for that ultimate autumn suited suit.
WADING INTO WINTER
That time again, for Winter Boots, the grey clouds have after a long battle with the Indian Summer overthrown London. The leaves cover the grounds in Hyde Park, in vibrant colours reminiscent of those summer days when the ground was green and far from wet. The air is crisp, but cold, time to finally dig into the winter wardrobe, and indulge into your waders.
TO LOAFER, OR NOT TO LOAFER, THAT IS THE QUESTION
And there it is…That touch of cold breeze greeting you in the morning, the sun still warming you during the day but reflecting on the leaves that are slowly turning into bold colours, undoubtedly; it’s autumn again. Time for shoes, but imperishable question: what shoes?
THE POWER OF THE BLACK BLAZER
The other day, whilst I was walking into our Vogue offices, my colleague commented on how ‘workplace chic’ I looked. Surprised in my floaty-floral patterned summer dress and black leather combat boots, I looked into the mirror, and realised that actually, any outfit paired with a black blazer radiates a true power statement.
A CATWALK REPORT
Enrolling a Fashion Journalism course at Central Saint Martins College of Art, my first assignment was to study a John Galliano fashion show. I had so much fun exploring this, even though it is not the most conscious show - hope you enjoy reading it as much as I was amused writing it.
THE PERFECT JEANS
Jeans are a base garment in many wardrobes but, unfortunately, they come with a high environmental footprint. The denim is made from cotton that requires an enormous amount of water to grow and uses hazardous chemicals for the colour dying process. So how can we find jeans that not only fits us perfectly but the environment too?
UNCOVERING RAINCOATS
Living in London, the weather is not only an ongoing topic for its citizens, it is also an essential topic to discuss if you want to survive your commute. Most commonly the weather synonym is described as cloudy, and precipitation itself has many different drizzling names. I realised my white fluffy winter coat needed an upgrade to something more waterproof, and this is how I came to uncover the not too fashionable but daringly durable clothing category of: raincoats.
THE PUZZLING SEARCH FOR THAT OFFICE BAG
The other day on my biweekly zoom with my fabulous mentor Jessica Gaspard, based in our headquarters in One World Trade in New York, we swapped our usual chat about career goals to career bags. Having been adjusted with portable laptops during the covid pandemic to enable remote working, the previous office clutch had to be replaced with something more spacious. To her (birthday) surprise her husband had managed to find her the perfect bag. I came to realise I needed to upgrade my daily tote bag and this led to my puzzling search for the perfect office bag.
CONSCIOUS WARDROBE STAPLES
In my constant search for the perfect wardrobe, I’m always on the lookout for that elegant-forever lasting piece of clothing that can still add something new and fresh to the closet whilst it will work with what's already in there and at the same time have the quality to last for years to come and by that make it a conscious choice.
SWAPPING HEELS FOR INSOLES, FASHIONABLY
Insoles; a word I wasn't too familiar with, nor do I think many of you are. Yes, we have heard it might be something for situations like those when one leg is shorter than the other or some extreme cases where one needs them to be able to walk. Little did I know that it was in fact quite common and that one day it would be something that would not only revolutionise my well-being but my wardrobe as well.
SOCKS, A LOVE AFFAIR
Having been working in fashion for a long time I rarely get surprised by discovering a new item, but some months ago in the company of my then new boyfriend. I ran out of socks. Not being afraid by stealing the usual boyfriend shirt, boyfriend sweater, boyfriend jeans you name it - I reached down in his sock drawer and there and then a life revolution happened.
WHY WE HAVE TO CHANGE THE WAY WE SHOP, NOW!
Having had a pop up store called The Sustainable Pop Up, on the Kings Road in Chelsea promoting Sustainable fashion, I realised that sustainable fashion does not have to be what I then feared; boring. Previously I found that natural materials always had this warning bell for dull colours, scratchy materials and overall a hippie stamp to it.. By researching for the store; I had the fortune to come across talented people embracing sustainable practices for fashion, and by that realising that those collections weren't at all dull or boring.
FINALLY, I RENTED A DRESS
Having been working in fashion for more than 10 years and enjoying the shopping hunt for those frequent parties, it was a very new experience to take a step back and to say; no! I don't need to buy another outfit for another event. This revolutionary moment was the final step in a sustainable evolution that has not only been happening inside me but also gradually around us in the fashion world.
HOW TO CREATE A SUSTAINABLE WARDROBE
We are excited to sell Isabella Papaz first book. In 2017 she launched Oramai followed by the opening of The Sustainable Pop Up. She has just quit her work at British Vogue, where she has been on the creative team for two years, as she wants to work on Oramai and to focus her time on educating people about sustainable fashion, starting with this book.
